Case Study: Subsea Installation, Acergy

Acergy is an international seabed-to-surface engineering and construction contractor to the offshore oil and gas industry worldwide. When Constructive Media was approached by Acergy to assist with creating 3D animations to assist with visual communication of subsea installation processes, we were more than happy to help.
Working with Acergy engineers and designers, Constructive Media was able to interpret complex drawings and procedures, creating 3D models and motion sequences to portray the subsea installation process of a pigging manifold and spool assembly.

Pictured above and below are still frame captures of an animation illustrating a fixed rigid spool being offloaded from a barge.

Animated sequences show equipment being safely unloaded from the deck and barge, before being submersed under hundreds of metres of water to the sea floor when the remote operated vehicles (ROV's) look after release mechanisms.

Preliminary animation (pre-viz) sequences were using during early production stages to ensure the correct message was being conveyed. Below is an example of this pre-viz sequence:
Once all the pre-viz sequences passed the approval stage, final rendering an further post-production tweaks took place to generate the final footage, incorporating such things as the simultation of underwater visibility/particles, fluid motion and physics.
Details such as tagging lines, orientation of objects, and guide posts were all created in 3D involving many hours of rigging and setup.
