The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has given conditional approval for a LNG plant to be built in Ashburton North, near Onslow. This is another key step in moving forward for the Wheatstone project, which has a planned capacity of 25 million tonnes per annum.

The EPA has said that the project’s impacts could be limited to an "acceptable level" it it was managed properly. Wheatstone is operated by Chevron (73.6 per cent), with partners Apache Corp (13 per cent), Kuwait’s KUFPEC (7 per cent) and Royal Dutch Shell (6.4 per cent).
